What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, which is taken from your blood. Your blood contains platelets that help repair damaged blood vessels, and is now known to also help stimulate hair growth. To get these platelets, your provider will draw blood from your arm and then place it in a machine that spins rapidly. This separates the platelets from the other parts of your blood.

How does PRP Injection for Hair Loss Work?

PRP hair restoration injections can be used to treat both men and women with thinning or patterned hair loss, or women wanting to achieve thicker fuller locks. To begin, Dr. George will apply a numbing solution to the area of your scalp where the injections will be administered to minimize any discomfort. After the area is numb, the PRP is injected underneath your scalp in order to stimulate hair growth. You will receive these injections over four sessions, spaced out by one month each. To maintain results, a follow-up injections session once every six months or so may be suggested.

Results

Prior to receiving PRP injection for hair loss, Dr. George will meet with you to discuss results and to ensure the treatment is the right approach for you, as PRP is not for all types of hair loss. It typically takes three to four months to begin seeing noticeable results. PRP injections are a better alternative than hair transplants, because it is faster, easier, and less expensive but produces the same results.
