Man-boobs, or gynecomastia, is a condition that causes over-developed or enlarged breasts in men and can occur at any age. This can result from hormonal changes, heredity, obesity or the use of some drugs. Man-boobs can include excess localized fat, excess glandular tissue development, excess breast skin, and can be present in one or both breasts.
There are two types of gynecomastia. Pseudo-gynecomastia is an enlargement of the male breast due to a large amount of fat tissue while keeping a normal amount of glandular breast tissue. Most abnormally large male breasts are the result of excess fat. A small amount of pseudo-gynecomastia occurs in most older men and is common in obese younger men.
True gynecomastia is the enlargement of male breasts due to excessive glandular tissue and is not as common. This can be caused by alcoholism, failure of the testes to produce testosterone, and several medications.
In cases where gynecomastia is primarily caused by excess fat, tumescent liposuction may be used. This involves a large amount of local anesthesia being injected into the fat beneath the skin and causing the area to become firm.
Gynecomastia can cause emotional distress and a lack of self confidence, causing some men to avoid physical activities and intimacy to hide their problem. If you are struggling with gynecomastia and low self-esteem because of it, you may be a candidate for tumescent liposuction in your breast area.
Tumescent liposuction of the male breast will improve physical appearance by removing as much fat as possible while avoiding damage to the skin or muscles. This is one of the most common areas for men to receive liposuction, and men with excessive fat in their chest area can look forward to vast improvement through tumescent liposuction.
